There is hope in the world and it’s coming from Mexico. A month ago, I facilitated a writing workshop with twenty-eight teachers and leaders from almost every state in Mexico. Each of these educators has received an award for innovation and excellence from Mexicanos Primero, a national education advocacy organization. The organization is led by a former #HGSE student of mine, Patricia Vazquez. She was also a chapter author in my recent book Designing Democratic Schools and Learning Environments.  Because of her vision, we are embarking on another project on democratic education. What an honor and privilege to work with these educators as they learned to write about their challenges and successes in schools and classrooms. It’s one thing to teach or lead well, but as anyone who has tried to write knows, it’s a totally new skill to learn to write well! These educators jumped in with enthusiasm and commitment. They know that education in Mexico can be improved and that their stories will document possible ways forward. I look forward to helping them document and shape their experiences.  Here they are in the depths of learning to write their stories.
